Fiber optic connection without a subscription: is that possible?

Imagine you receive a letter stating that Open Dutch Fiber will be installing fiber optic in your street. You may wonder: should I become a customer right away? Or can I have the connection installed but wait a while before getting an internet subscription? Nikita Mostovoy, partner manager at Open Dutch Fiber, explains how it works exactly.

Making your home future-proof without obligation

When Open Dutch Fiber is being installed in your area, you can get a free fiber optic connection in your home. You don't have to subscribe to a plan yet. The cable will simply be laid out in advance. "We connect the house free of charge," says Nikita. "But whether and when you want to use internet via fiber optic, that's completely up to you." So, nothing is activated. The connection is there, but remains 'off' until you decide to choose a provider.

Why would you have fiber optic installed?

You may still be using your current internet connection just fine. However, it is wise to have the fiber optic connection installed now:

  • The installation is now free.

  • There will be no need to open any walls or sidewalks later.

  • Your home is prepared for the future.

  • You can easily switch to fiber optic internet later on.

"We often hear that people are happy afterwards that they have connected," says Nikita. "At the moment they do want fiber optic, they only need to connect their modem."

Do you want to get a subscription later on? That's not a problem. You can sign up with a provider that works with Open Dutch Fiber at any time. You just need to subscribe to a plan. The connection is already in place. Do you want to know which providers are available? Check the current list.List of providersI'm sorry, but I need a text to translate. What if you really don't want a fiber optic connection?

That's fine too. Nobody is obliged to participate. Do you really not want fiber optic in your house? Then you can indicate that. In some buildings, installation is technically necessary, for example to reach other residents who do want a connection. But you are not committed to anything.

"Even if you don't use fiber optic, we can still prepare the network in advance," Nikita explains. "It won't cost you anything and you're not committed to anything."
