Can I get fiber internet if I live in a housing association?

Dreaming of super fast internet and living in a rental home or apartment managed by a housing corporation? No worries, fiber is often available there too! Jeroen Dangremond, Manager Customer Operations at Open Dutch Fiber, works daily on expanding fiber networks. He explains how to check if fiber is available, what to do if it is not yet available, and how it works in an apartment building.

Can I get fiber in my apartment?

Yes, you can also get fiber in flats and apartments. Usually, fiber is installed in the entire building on the same day. The fiber cables are brought from the street to the building and then connected to the apartments.

This happens in a few steps:

1. The fiber cables are being installed up to the building.

2. A technician is installing a fiber connection in the central hall. This is the place where all connections come together.

3. From this central location, the houses will be connected. Each house will have its own fiber cable.

4. A technician will come by to install the fiber termination unit (FTU) in your home.

5. You can directly connect a modem and start using super-fast internet.

Jeroen explains why this approach is so efficient: "By connecting an entire building at once, we minimize inconvenience and ensure that everyone has quick access to fiber. This way, each individual residence does not have to wait separately."

Is fiber already available for my home?

The easiest way to check if fiber is available in your rental home or apartment is by using the postcode check from Open Dutch Fiber. Enter your postcode and house number, and you will immediately see if your home has fiber or will be connected soon. Jeroen: "Fiber is being installed per neighborhood. Some homes are already connected, while others still have to wait. With the postcode check, you can see right away if your address is up next."

What if fiber is not yet available?

If fiber is not yet available at your address, you can contact your housing corporation. They play an important role in applying for fiber for your apartment or building. Often, the corporation must give permission for the installation of fiber cables in the building. Open Dutch Fiber can support in this by establishing contact and providing information about the benefits of fiber.

How to switch to fiber internet

Switching to fiber is easy:

  1. Choose a provider and subscription. Find a package that suits your needs.

  2. Make an installation appointment. Your provider arranges a technician.
