When will fiber optic be installed in my street?
Fiber optic internet is fast, reliable, and ready for the future. It's logical that you want to start using it as soon as possible. Perhaps you have heard that fiber optic is being installed in your neighborhood. But how do you know when your street will be next? Jeroen Dangremond, Manager Customer Operations at Open Dutch Fiber, explains how the planning works and what you can expect.
How do I know when fiber optic will be available in my street?
The installation of fiber optic is done per neighborhood or district. Do you want to know if your street is in the schedule? Use the postcode check On the website of Open Dutch Fiber. Enter your postal code and house number and you will immediately see if fiber optic is already available or when the installation is planned.
Jeroen Dangremond explains how this process works: "We always start with laying down fiber optic cables in the ground. This is done per municipality and is announced well in advance. Then the connections to homes follow, but this can vary per address. That's why it's useful to do the postcode check, so you know exactly when it's your turn."
Often you will also receive a letter or email from the network administrator or your provider once fiber optic is being installed in your area. This will detail exactly what will happen and when your street will be affected.
What happens when fiber optic is installed in my street?
When your street is connected, excavation work will start to lay the fiber optic cables underground. This usually only takes a few days. After that, the connection will be brought to your home.
Jeroen emphasizes that communication plays a big role in this: "We make sure that residents are informed on time. First, you will receive an announcement, and a reminder will follow a week before the work starts. This way, you know exactly when the construction will begin and what to expect."
What if fiber optic cable does not reach my street yet?
Is your street not yet in the planning? No worries, Open Dutch Fiber is continuously expanding the fiber optic network. The installation is done per municipality and neighborhood, based on a predetermined schedule.
Jeroen explains how this works: "If we are already working in your area on the installation, you can leave your interest on the website. This helps us to identify which addresses we can connect directly. If your neighborhood is not yet in the planning, this option is not available because we do not install fiber optic in the whole of the Netherlands at the same time."
