Open Dutch Fiber reaches 600,000 homes; increases rollout ambition to more than 2 million homes
ODF has accelerated the rollout and the fiber optic network has surpassed the milestone of 600,000 homes, connecting now more than 30 Dutch municipalities. Instead of reaching the goal of 1 million homes in 2025 as planned, ODF will achieve it this year already, following the expansion of the footprint with the acquisition of E-Fiber and the acceleration of the rollout. As a result, ODF is increasing its target to connect more than 2 million homes in cities and villages by 2025. The company offers an open platform for all operators with competitive wholesale rates, enabling providers to offer low fiber optic rates to Dutch end-users.
Supported by the expertise of employees in fiber optics (including experience in Deutsche Glasfaser and Reggefiber), ODF has already signed turnkey construction contracts for 1.5 million homes. This allows the company to fix construction prices and hedge against global inflationary pressures. The rollout is fully financed with a mix of equity and debt, covering over EUR 1.8 billion in estimated investments. The company recently announced an increase in its debt facilities to EUR 1.15 billion.
ODF continuously explores the market for additional growth opportunities through acquisitions, including the acquisition of existing fiber optic networks and fiber optic networks under construction.
ODF is the largest independent open-access provider of fiber optic connections in the Netherlands.
ODF is the largest independent open-access provider of fiber optic connections in the Netherlands. Several internet providers are already active on the network, including Odido, TriNed, Fiber.nl, and Freedom Internet, benefiting from offering best-in-class fiber optic connections to end users by upgrading customers from DSL and acquiring new customers from older types of broadband infrastructure (mainly DSL and Coax). Open Dutch Fiber aims to provide competitive services via fiber optic to as many households in the Netherlands as possible while continuously contributing to the digitalization in the country.
Floris van den Broek, CEO of Open Dutch Fiber: "I am proud of the 600,000 homes that we have already connected to a fast and stable fiber optic connection together with our partners. In less than 2 years, we have established the company and laid a significant part of the intended fiber optic network. We have observed a large and increasing demand for fast and stable internet, and therefore, we see an opportunity to expand our rollout ambitions to provide even more Dutch homes with fiber optic."
