Open Dutch Fiber fibers up the capital

Open Dutch Fiber is now also offering superfast internet via fiber optic in Amsterdam. In early 2022, Open Dutch Fiber will start the installation around Westerpark and in the Bos en Lommer neighborhood. In total, 29,000 additional households in Amsterdam will soon be able to use superfast internet via fiber optic in the capital city. This brings the total number of connections that Open Dutch Fiber has achieved since April 2021 to 250,000. They are well on their way to providing superfast internet via fiber optic to 1 million households, well before the five-year deadline.

With the 29,000 additional households in Amsterdam, Open Dutch Fiber is connecting another large urbanized area to fiber optic. The work will start in early 2022 and the first homes will be connected in April 2022. Alderman Meliani is pleased with the agreement: "Through fiber optic, more Amsterdammers can benefit from the opportunities that the digital world offers. Fast internet is essential to meet the growing demand for connectivity from residents and businesses. Amsterdam is increasingly connected to the fiber optic network and with the start of the construction around the Westerpark and in the Bos en Lommer district, a great step is taken." More projects will be announced outside the capital this year.

Superfast internet at an attractive price

The installation of fiber optic in Amsterdam is part of the plan presented by Open Dutch Fiber in April 2021 to connect at least one million households in the Netherlands to fiber optic over the next five years. They choose urban areas where there is currently no fiber optic. In this way, Open Dutch Fiber makes a substantial contribution to the further digitalization of the Netherlands. Open Dutch Fiber sees opportunities to further expand this ambition within a few years by connecting even more households to fiber optic.

High-quality and reliable fiber optic connections

Open Dutch Fiber only installs fiber optic in places where there is currently no fiber optic to ensure that the whole of the Netherlands has access to competitive services via fiber optic as soon as possible. Floris van den Broek, Co-CEO Open Dutch Fiber: "About half of all Dutch people now have access to fast internet via fiber optic. We are particularly lagging behind in urban areas compared to other countries in Europe. High-quality and reliable fiber optic connections are essential for the Netherlands and necessary for many applications such as remote working and telemedicine. Open Dutch Fiber therefore wants to quickly provide residents of urban areas with access to all the possibilities that fiber optic offers."
