Open Dutch Fiber starts fiber optic installation in Venlo.

Open Dutch Fiber will offer superfast internet via fiber optic in Venlo. In December, Open Dutch Fiber will start the installation in Blerick, Tegelen, and Belfeld. In total, almost 24,000 households will soon be able to use superfast internet via fiber optic. The intention is to then connect the rest of Venlo as well.

The first houses will be connected in April 2022.

Open Dutch Fiber recently announced connections in various cities such as Zoetermeer, Haarlem, Utrecht, Ridderkerk, Rotterdam Prins Alexander, Leidschendam-Voorburg, and Delft. Venlo is now added to the list. Sjors Peeters, alderman for livability, elderly affairs, housing, and neighborhoods, is enthusiastic: "Fiber optic is indispensable in this day and age for anyone who wants to use modern communication tools such as video calling. We are pleased that the first cores are now being connected, and soon the entire municipality of Venlo can benefit from this fast internet connection." With almost 24,000 households, Open Dutch Fiber is once again connecting a large urban area to fiber optic. The work will start in December, and by October 2022, it will be completed. The first homes will be connected in April 2022. More projects outside Venlo will be announced later this year.

On the way to 1,000,000 households

The installation of fiber optic in Venlo is part of the plan presented by Open Dutch Fiber in April 2021 to connect at least one million households in the Netherlands to fiber optic over the next five years. They are focusing on urban areas where fiber optic is not yet available. Currently, work is already underway to connect nearly a quarter of the targeted households. In this way, Open Dutch Fiber is making a significant contribution to further digitization in the Netherlands. Open Dutch Fiber sees opportunities to further expand this ambition in the coming years by connecting even more households to fiber optic.

Access to fiber optic as soon as possible for everyone

Open Dutch Fiber only installs fiber optic in places where there is currently no fiber optic available, in order to ensure that the whole of the Netherlands has access to competitive services via fiber optic as soon as possible. Floris van den Broek, Co-CEO Open Dutch Fiber: "Approximately half of all Dutch people now have access to high-speed internet via fiber optic. Especially in urban areas, we are lagging behind compared to other countries in Europe. In the past period, we have learned how important access to high-speed internet is now that we work from home much more. High-quality and reliable." Fiber optic connections are essential for the Netherlands. Open Dutch Fiber wants to provide residents of urban areas with access quickly. to all the possibilities that fiber optic offers.
