Open Dutch Fiber starts construction of high-speed fiber optic network in Zoetermeer.
In the neighborhoods of Seghwaert and Buytenwegh de Leyens, the first users will be connected to the fiber optic network being installed by Open Dutch Fiber before the end of 2021. Other neighborhoods will follow afterwards. An innovative installation method is being used, allowing work to be done up to five times faster. The network in the northern part of Zoetermeer will be completed by the end of 2022. After that, Open Dutch Fiber also plans to connect the remaining neighborhoods of Zoetermeer.
The installation of fiber optic in Zoetermeer is part of the plan presented by Open Dutch Fiber in April 2021 to connect at least 1,000,000 households in the Netherlands to fiber optic over the next five years. Open Dutch Fiber chooses densely populated areas where fiber optic is not yet available for the installation of their network. In this way, Open Dutch Fiber makes a significant contribution to the further digitalization of the Netherlands. The project involves an investment of at least 700 million euros. Open Dutch Fiber sees opportunities to further expand this ambition in the coming years.
Access to fiber optic as soon as possible for everyone
Open Dutch Fiber only installs fiber optic in areas where there is currently no fiber optic available. Board Member Jordi Nieuwenhuis of Open Dutch Fiber: "We want all Dutch citizens to have access to superfast internet as soon as possible. Therefore, we will not lay down a fiber optic network where other parties have already done so. High-quality and reliable fiber optic connections are essential for the Netherlands. This need has only increased now that many more people are working from home.Sure, please provide me with the text you would like me to translate.
