Open Dutch Fiber accelerates fiber optic installation with process optimization
Razendsnel internet via glasvezel?
Tightening in the labor market
There is a shortage in the labor market, making it a challenging task to find qualified technicians. In order to supplement the pool of technicians, it was necessary for Open Dutch Fiber to train their own technicians or acquire a company that already has skilled technicians. Ultimately, installation company TOF was acquired, one of the Dutch market leaders in the field of fiber optic home connections. With this reinforcement of technicians, households can be connected to the fiber optic network more quickly. In addition to increasing manpower, innovation is also important to tackle the second issue.
Connect high-rise buildings
In many cities, there are still not enough fiber optic connections. Fiber optic installers are struggling with limited space and connecting high-rise buildings. The most common method for installation in high-rise buildings is to use existing cable ducts indoors and pull the fiber optic cable through them with the resident's approval. To ensure that everyone gives approval, good coordination and communication are necessary. After all, agreements need to be made with residents.
Laying outside
In addition to increasing capacity, it is important to speed up the installation process. One important factor in this is minimizing residents' dependency. One of the methods that Open Dutch Fiber uses for this is to install fiber optic connections externally. This can be done by preparing the connection for all homes and storing the fiber under the communal gallery or a shared balcony. This way, a high lift is only needed once and a house connection can then be relatively easily realized. This allows the technician to reach and connect the fiber optic cable in the house without causing inconvenience to neighbors and in a short period of time.In addition to storing the fiber optic cable under a common gallery, a high-rise plug can also be installed. This plug is equipped with a GPS tracker. Using a cherry picker, a point can be installed on each floor with a neatly concealed cable. When a resident wants to switch to fiber optic, the installation point can easily be located from the apartment via GPS at a later time, and implemented immediately. Open Dutch Fiber always looks for the most suitable solution in collaboration with the VVE to accelerate the installation process, taking into account the residential building. The acquisition of telecom installer TOF and the methods of laying fiber optic cables from outside are accelerating the rollout of fiber optic and thus the digitization of the Netherlands. It is the mission of Open Dutch Fiber to have 2 million households connected to a fiber optic network by 2025 and to benefit from super-fast, stable connections. With acquisitions and innovations like these, achieving this goal is getting closer and closer.
