Open Dutch Fiber starts construction of high-speed fiber optic network in Haarlem
Open Dutch Fiber will offer internet via fiber optic to approximately 28,000 households in Haarlem. The starting signal for the construction in the southeastern part of Haarlem was jointly given today by Michel Rog, alderman of Finance, Sports, and Public Space, Johan van den Branden, director of Network Design Odido, and Michael Griffioen, CEO of Open Dutch Fiber.
In early September, Open Dutch Fiber will start the installation. After that, Open Dutch Fiber also plans to connect other neighborhoods in Haarlem. This network will be completed by the end of 2022. Alderman Michel Rog is enthusiastic.
"Now that more and more people are working from home, fast and stable internet is becoming increasingly important for residents and businesses. It's great that soon residents of Haarlem will be able to choose for superfast internet via this fiber optic network."
1,000,000 households
The installation of fiber optic in Haarlem is part of the plan presented by Open Dutch Fiber in April 2021 to connect at least 1,000,000 households in the Netherlands to fiber optic in the next five years. Earlier this month, they already announced the installation of a fiber optic network in Zoetermeer. Open Dutch Fiber chooses to install their network in densely populated areas where there is currently little to no fiber optic. In this way, they contribute to accelerating the further digitalization of the Netherlands. The installation involves an investment of at least 700 million euros. ODF sees opportunities to exceed this ambition within a few years.
Access to fiber optic as soon as possible for everyone
With the installation of fiber optic, Open Dutch Fiber aims to make a fast, stable, and future-proof network accessible to everyone. Open Dutch Fiber uses innovative installation methods that allow for up to five times faster installation and minimal disruption for residents and businesses. CEO Michael Griffioen of Open Dutch Fiber: "The Netherlands is lagging behind in Europe in terms of the deployment of fiber optic networks, especially in urban areas. We want everyone to have access to fast and stable internet as soon as possible. The deployment of fiber optic networks in the Netherlands can and should be much faster to secure an economic leading position for the country. I am thrilled that, together with Odido, we can already offer the residents and businesses of Haarlem all the benefits of super-fast and reliable telecommunication services over fiber optic in the near future."
