Open Dutch Fiber starts fiber optic installation in Utrecht.

Open Dutch Fiber will install superfast internet via fiber optic in two parts of Utrecht. The construction will start this autumn. First in De Meern and Veldhuizen, and shortly after, the first shovel will hit the ground in the northeastern part of the city, including the neighborhoods of Tuindorp, Vogelenbuurt, Tuinwijk, Pijlsweerd, Zeeheldenbuurt, Lauwerecht, and Wittevrouwen. In total, almost 30,000 households will be connected.

The installation of fiber optic in Utrecht is part of the plan presented by Open Dutch Fiber in April 2021 to connect at least 1,000,000 households in the Netherlands to fiber optic over the next five years. They choose urban areas where fiber optic is not yet available. In this way, Open Dutch Fiber makes a significant contribution to further digitalization of the Netherlands. Open Dutch Fiber sees opportunities to expand this ambition even further in the coming years by connecting even more households to fiber optic.

Access to fiber optic as soon as possible for everyone

Open Dutch Fiber only installs fiber optic in places where there is currently no fiber optic available, in order to ensure that all of the Netherlands has access to competitive services via fiber optic as soon as possible.

CEO Michael Griffioen of Open Dutch Fiber: "Only half of all Dutch people currently have access to high-speed internet via fiber optic. This puts us behind in Europe. Especially urban areas in the Netherlands are lagging behind. We want to change that. We have learned in the past period how important this is now that we work from home much more. High-quality and reliable fiber optic connections are essential for the Netherlands."
