Requesting a fiber optic connection box: here's how to do it

A fiber optic box (also known as FTU) is necessary to use fiber optic internet. This small box connects the fiber optic cable to your modem, so you can use Wi-Fi and internet in your home. Jeroen Dangremond, Manager Customer Operations at Open Dutch Fiber, explains why this box is so important and how to request one.

What is a fiber optic box?

A fiber optic box is a small white box that is usually mounted in the meter cupboard. It connects the fiber optic cable in the street to your modem in the house. Without this box, you cannot use fiber optic internet.

Jeroen Dangremond explains: "The fiber optic box is the link between the fiber optic network and your modem. Without this box, you cannot benefit from the speed and stability of fiber optic."

The fiber optic box will be installed by a technician once you choose fiber optic. It remains the property of the network operator.
