How much does fiber cost?

Fiber optic internet is super fast and reliable. You hear more and more often how convenient it is and how well it works. But how much does fiber optic actually cost? Do you have to pay for the installation, and what are the costs for a subscription? Jeroen Dangremond, Manager Customer Operations at Open Dutch Fiber, explains what you can expect and how to make the best choice.

What does it cost to install fiber?

Good news: the construction of our fiber network costs you nothing. We lay the cables in the ground up to the facade of your home. As soon as you take out a subscription with one of the providers on our open network, we will install the connection point in your home for free. In almost all cases, this is fully arranged and paid for on your behalf.

Jeroen Dangremond explains why we work this way: “We want as many people as possible to have access to our high-speed network. That is why we arrange the installation at no cost for residents who take out a subscription. This makes the switch to the internet of the future very easy.”

As soon as the cables are in the ground and you have chosen a subscription, we will visit you for the installation. You decide which provider and price suit you best.

In exceptional cases, we may incur additional costs for the installation up to your home, for example, if your home is far from the public road. We will of course discuss this with you in advance before the installation.

Do I have to pay for the fiber connection?

The construction and connection of fiber optic in your home is free of charge as soon as you take out a subscription with one of the providers on our network. Our contractor will then carry out the work for you. There are two situations where additional costs may apply.

Homes in rural areas

Is your home located far outside a village or city center? In that case, we sometimes request a contribution for the construction due to the long distance. You can check this immediately by using the postcode check on our website.

Installing an additional wall socket (switch plug)

Fiber equipment requires a power point in the meter box. If there isn't an available socket, the technician can install an additional wall socket for you.

  • Cost: €135 (including installation and materials).

  • Payment: You will pay this amount in cash to the technician after installation.

What do you pay for a fiber subscription?

If you want to use fiber optic, you need a subscription with an internet provider. The costs depend on the package you choose.

"Fiber optic is a smart choice," says Jeroen. "For the same price as cable or ADSL, you get a much faster and more stable connection, without speed loss during busy times."
