I do not want fiber. Is it mandatory?

More and more people are getting fiber in their street. Fiber provides fast and stable internet and is ready for the future. But what if you don't want fiber? Do you have to switch, or can you stick with the internet you currently use? Jeroen Dangremond, Manager Customer Operations at Open Dutch Fiber, explains the options and why a fiber connection can also be useful if you are not ready to switch yet.

Is fiber mandatory?

No, taking fiber is not mandatory. Open Dutch Fiber lays the cables in the street so that everyone in the neighborhood has access to our high-speed network. The construction in the street costs you nothing. You choose if and when you want to use a connection in your home.

Jeroen Dangremond explains how this works: “We give residents complete freedom of choice. As soon as you decide to switch to fiber, you can easily compare subscriptions with our comparison tool. After selecting the subscription, we will install the connection in your home for free. This way, we prepare your house for the future at the moment you need it.”

When you choose a subscription, we place a fiber connection point (FTU) in your home. This usually happens in the meter cupboard. This directly connects your house to the network in the street and allows you to enjoy stable and fast internet.

What if I don't want fiber?

If you do not want to use fiber at this time, you do not need to do anything. We will install the network in your neighborhood, but you are not obliged to take out a subscription. You do not have to pay for anything. In that case, the cable remains in the ground in front of your home and nothing else changes.

Jeroen explains why we leave this choice to the residents: “We lay the foundation in the street for everyone. As soon as you need faster internet in the future, you can take out a subscription with one of our providers at any time. Only then will we visit you to install the connection in your home for free. This way, you always have the freedom to choose when to switch.”

Why fiber is still a good choice

Although fiber is not mandatory, it can be a smart choice for the future. Here are the benefits:

Faster internet: Fiber is much faster than cable or ADSL. We are using more and more internet together, and fiber is a modern choice for that. Convenient for working from home, gaming, or streaming movies.

More reliable: Your internet connection remains fast, even during busy times.

Future-proof: Fiber can handle larger amounts of data, ensuring it will continue to work well in the future.

More sustainable: Fiber uses less energy than traditional connections. This saves you on energy costs.

Jeroen: "People often think that an ADSL internet connection is enough, until they notice that video calls are choppy or downloads are slow. Fiber is an investment in stable internet, now and in the future."

You choose for yourself whether you want to use fiber. It is not mandatory to have your home connected. As soon as you decide that you want to benefit from the fastest internet, you choose a subscription via our comparison tool. We will then visit you to install the connection in your home for free. This way, you are immediately ready for the future at a time that suits you.

To have or not to have fiber?

Taking fiber is not mandatory. You can also choose to have the box installed but not switch to another provider immediately. This makes a potential switch in the future easy and fast. You decide if and when you switch.

But fiber offers many advantages, such as faster internet that is ready for the future. Want to know more? Visit our website and find out. what fiber can mean for youI?
