Requesting a fiber connection box: here's how to do it

A fiber box (also known as FTU) is necessary to use fiber internet. This small box connects the fiber cable to your modem, so you can use Wi-Fi and internet in your home. Jeroen Dangremond, Manager Customer Operations at Open Dutch Fiber, explains why this box is so important and how to request one.

Man and woman on the couchWhat is a fiber box?

A fiber box is a small white box that is usually mounted in the meter cupboard. It connects the fiber cable in the street to your modem in the house. Without this box, you cannot use fiber internet.

Jeroen Dangremond explains: "The fiber box is the link between the fiber network and your modem. Without this box, you cannot benefit from the speed and stability of fiber."

The fiber box will be installed by a technician once you choose fiber. It remains the property of the network operator.

Requesting a fiber box

Do you not have a fiber optic connection point in your home yet? We are happy to arrange that for you. You will receive the connection for free as soon as you take out a subscription with one of the providers on our open network. A technician will then visit you to install the box. This way, you are immediately ready to use high-speed internet.

How does it work?

  1. Check availability: Use the postcode check on our website to see if fiber is available in your street.

  2. Choose a subscription: Is fiber available? Then choose a package via the comparison tool that suits you. Do you live in an apartment? We will then arrange permission with your HOA (VvE).

  3. Free installation: After you have chosen a subscription, our technician will make an appointment. The technician places the connection point in your meter cupboard and ensures everything works correctly.

Jeroen Dangremond explains why this is the best route: “We install the fiber connection point at the moment you actually want to start using our network. By choosing a subscription immediately, we ensure the technician sets everything up for you in one go. This way, you can enjoy all the benefits immediately without any hassle.”

Ready for fiber?

A fiber box is an important component of your fiber internet. It allows you to connect to your modem. If you need a fiber box, or if it needs to be repaired or replaced, contact your provider. They will arrange for a technician to assist you.
