Open Dutch Fiber welcomes ACM's further assessment of the planned KPN joint venture - Delta Fiber transaction; expresses concerns about unfair competition in broadband and fiber optics.
Open Dutch Fiber (ODF), one of the largest alternative providers of fiber optic infrastructure in the Netherlands, appreciates the critical stance of the Authority for Consumers & Markets (ACM) and the initiation of a further investigation into the acquisition of approximately 200,000 Delta Fiber consumer connections by the KPN joint venture Glaspoort. ODF has always advocated for healthy and sustainable long-term competition within the Dutch broadband and fiber optic market. The company believes that a more in-depth investigation by the ACM is a crucial step to ensure fair competition in the market.
"Approximately 90% of the FTTH network in the Netherlands has been rolled out, we are concerned that the current situation in the Dutch market will lead to significantly higher prices for both households and businesses, a decreasing quality of service, and less innovation in broadband," says Dr. Stephan Zimmermann, CEO of ODF. "In this context, we also welcome the recognition by the ACM of potential competition-restricting risks associated with the string of smaller acquisitions in favor of the KPN network," continues Dr. Stephan Zimmermann. "We appreciate the thorough approach of the ACM and hope that this will contribute to a more balanced and competitive landscape, in which all telecom companies can thrive and innovate. This will ultimately also benefit the Dutch consumer in the form of better services and fair consumer prices."

Open Dutch Fiber welcomes ACM’s further review of the proposed joint venture between KPN and Delta Fiber; however, it remains concerned about unfair competition in the broadband and fiber market.
Open Dutch Fiber (ODF), one of the largest alternative fiber infrastructure providers in the Netherlands, appreciates the critical stance of the Authority Consumer & Market (ACM) and the initiation of a further investigation into the acquisition of approximately 200,000 Delta Fiber consumer connections by the KPN joint venture Glaspoort. ODF has always championed healthy and long-term, sustainable competition within the Dutch broadband and glass fiber markets. The company believes that ACM’s in-depth review is an important step in ensuring fair competition.
"With 90% of the FTTH network already deployed in the Netherlands, we remain concerned that the current conditions on the Dutch market lead to significantly higher prices for both households and businesses, declining quality of service, and less innovation in broadband," said Dr. Stephan Zimmermann, CEO of ODF. "In this respect, we also welcome ACM's recognition of the potential anti-competitive risks associated with a roll-up strategy of adding smaller acquisitions to the KPN network," Dr. Stephan Zimmermann continued. "We appreciate the thorough approach taken by the ACM and hope that it will contribute to a more balanced and competitive landscape, ensuring that all telecom operators can thrive and innovate, ultimately benefiting Dutch consumers with better services and fair consumer prices."
