Request fiber as part of a Homeowners Association

Do you want fiber in your apartment building? Then the Homeowners' Association (HOA) must give permission. This may seem difficult, but with the right approach, it can be arranged well. Jeroen Dangremond, Manager Customer Operations at Open Dutch Fiber, explains how to approach this and why fiber is a smart choice for apartment buildings.

Requesting fiber at the HOA: 3 tips

Want fast and reliable internet for everyone in your complex? These 3 practical tips help you prepare, inform and get approval from your Homeowners' Association:

1. Check if fiber is available

Before you can apply for fiber, first check if fiber optic is available at your address. Use the postcode check from Open Dutch Fiber. Enter your postal code and house number and you will immediately see if your apartment building can already be connected. Is fiber not yet available? You can express your interest through the website.

Jeroen Dangremond explains why this is the first step: "Fiber is installed per neighborhood. Some addresses are already connected, while others still have to wait. With the postcode check, you can immediately see if your home is up next."

2. Gather information about fiber.

Being well-prepared helps you to get fiber approved more easily. Gather the right information:

Benefits for residents: Fiber provides faster and more stable internet and is ready for the future.

Costs and planning: The construction of our fiber network costs the HOA and the residents nothing. We lay the cables in the ground up to the facade of the complex. In almost all cases, this is fully arranged and paid for on your behalf. The work often takes only a few days and causes little disruption.

Independent choice: Open Dutch Fiber works with multiple providers. Residents can choose themselves from whom they purchase fiber services.

In an apartment building, many people use the internet at the same time. With fiber optic, the connection remains fast and stable for everyone, now and in the future. "People are using the internet more and more." says Jeroen. "Fiber optic ensures that the entire building has a reliable connection, without compromising on speed."

3. Discuss it with the Homeowners' Association

Plan a meeting with the Homeowners' Association to discuss fiber. Prepare yourself well:

● Clearly explain why fiber is a good choice for the complex.

Show that the construction causes little inconvenience and takes little time.

● Give residents the opportunity to ask questions.

In many Homeowners' Associations, a majority vote is required to install fiber. Make sure that agreements and decisions are documented in the minutes.

Time to switch to fiber

If the Homeowners' Association agrees, the fiber cable can be installed. Open Dutch Fiber will take care of the connection in the building and to the homes.
